December 16-20

6th: We will be reading the story "Africa Digs." We will focus on how to answer multiple choice questions and practice putting events in order.

7th: We will be writing a paragraph and reviewing prepositions. We will also be reading the story "Coming Clean About Toxic Pollution"

8th: We will be writing New Year's Resolution and taking a test on prepositional phrase. We will also be reading a story about Roberto Clemente.

December 9-13

6th Grade: This week we will be working on reading fluently. We will be reading out loud to each other and practice our phrasing. We will also be starting to read the story "Africa Digs" and reviewing antonyms.

7th Grade: This week we are going to be reading about Rachel Carson. We will also be completing an informal outline to write a paragraph about Rachel Carson as well take a spelling test on Friday. Please, study your words.

8th Grade: This week we are going to be reading "A Special Kind of Athlete." We will also be learning the prefix 'anti' and taking a spelling test on Friday. Study your words.

November 11th-15th

Happy Veteran's Day!

6th: This week we will be having a spelling pretest. We will also be reading Mini Dialogs 9-12 and working on our fluency when reading different types of phrases.

7th: This week we will be taking a test on different word meanings and begin reading the story "Looking At Jazz" and understanding the vocabulary words in the story.

8th: This week we will be reading "Tony Hawk", learning the vocabulary words and answering comprehension questions about the story. We will also learn about the prefix sub-.

November 4-8

6th: This week we will be reading about maps and how they are like a sandwich. Students will also be able to identify the main idea and supporting details in a text. We will be having a spelling test on Friday.

7th: This week we will be learning about adverbs and using them in our writing. We will also be preparing to write an expository paragraph.

8th: This week we will be learning about possessive nouns and pronouns and read "The Complete Athlete" and "Extreme Athletes."  We will also be focusing on prepositions and prepositional phrases.

Conferences

Conferences are next week. They will be on Monday and Thursday from 4:30p.m. to 8:00p.m. in the gym. Remember if you come to conferences you will get a free assignment pass. It can't be used on projects or tests.

October 14-18

6th: This week we will focusing on plural nouns and reading more of "Batty About Bats." We will be taking an assessment on plural nouns.

7th: This week we will be focusing on how to write an expository paragraph. We will be taking an assessment on pronouns and prepositions as well as re-reading the story "Twins."

8th: This week we will be focusing on word relationships, contractions and compound words.

In homeroom we will be reviewing Central's Four Anti-Bullying Rules. Does anyone remember them?

They are:

1. We will not bully others.
2. We will try to help students who are bullied.
3. We will try to include students who are left out.
4. If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.

6th: This week we will be reading the story "Batty About Bats", identifying singular and plural nouns as well as understanding the difference between main ideas and supporting details.

7th: This week we will be taking a spelling test, learning about adverbs and how to expand predicates as well as read the story "The Vast Sky."

8th: This week we will be learning some vocabulary strategies, the verb HAVE and reading the story "Legendary Superheroes."

6th Grade: This week we are starting the Language! program. We will be focusing on phonics, taking a spelling pre-test and reading some mini comic strips.

7th Grade: This week we are starting the Language! program. We will be reviewing phonics drills, reviewing antonyms, idioms and reading the story "Remarkable Twins."

8th Grade: This week we are starting the Language! program.We will be learning about open syllables, taking a spelling pre-test and reviewing prepositional phrases. We will also be reading "Mythical Heroes."

I can't believe we have already completed two weeks of school. This week we will be completing baseline assessments in the Language! program. We will be assessing comprehension, fluency and spelling. These assessments will tell us what we do well at in reading and what we need to work on.

September 9-13

This week we are going to be introduced to SSR (sustained silent reading). Students will need to find a book they want to read in class. We will practice writing responses to passages. We will also start working on our "Read All About Me" Newspapers. These newspapers will be due on Friday, September 13th.

Welcome Back! I'm looking forward to this school year. This week we are going to be getting to know each other. We will also be going over the rules and procedures. Your first assignment is to sign the syllabus and also have your guardian sign. It is due Friday and worth 5 points. Let's have a great year!!!

February 4th-8th

7th/8th Reading: We will learn the academic vocabulary word "distract" and "controversial." We will also continue to learn about r-controlled syllables and focus on the characteristics of and Opinion Essay.

6th Reading: We will be reading the story "The Hardest Maps to Make" and answering comprehension questions about it. We will also complete a blueprint for reading and writing on the story "The Hardest Maps to Make."

7th/8th Reading: We will be having a test on helping verbs, subjects and direct objects. Make sure you study. We will also fill out a K-W-L chart and review singular and plural nouns.

6th Reading: We will have a test over antonyms at the end of the week? What is an antonym? What does the word ancient mean? We will also be reviewing singular nouns.

7th/8th Reading: This is the beginning of the 2nd semester. We will be reviewing stressed syllables and prefixes. We will also prepare to write an expository paragraph by completing an informal outline.

6th Reading: This is the beginning of the 2nd semester, so start off on the right foot. We will be writing a summary pragraph on Tuesday and review how to diagram simple sentences.

January 14th-18th

This is the last week of the semester. Please get your work turned in.

7th/8th Reading: This week we will be reading the story "Way to Go." We learned the vocabulary words from this story last week. As we read try to see if you know what the vocabulary words mean. We will also be watching the movie "Finding Forrester" on Wednesday and Thursday. Make sure you get your permission slips turned in by January 16th.

6th Reading: This week we will be taking a spelling test and preparing to write a summary paragraph. We will also be watching a Wishbone Tom Sawyer movie.
