Welcome Back

Welcome Back! I'm looking forward to this school year. This week we are going to be getting to know each other. We will also be going over the rules and procedures. Your first assignment is to sign the syllabus and also have your guardian sign. It is due Friday and worth 5 points. Let's have a great year!!!

Summer is Almost Over

We are starting to see those lovely "Back to School" signs. Summer is almost over. I hope everyone had a great summer. I know I had a blast spending it with Cooper. Looking forward to this next school year.

February 4th-8th

7th/8th Reading: We will learn the academic vocabulary word "distract" and "controversial." We will also continue to learn about r-controlled syllables and focus on the characteristics of and Opinion Essay.

6th Reading: We will be reading the story "The Hardest Maps to Make" and answering comprehension questions about it. We will also complete a blueprint for reading and writing on the story "The Hardest Maps to Make."

January 28-February 1

7th/8th Reading: We will be having a test on helping verbs, subjects and direct objects. Make sure you study. We will also fill out a K-W-L chart and review singular and plural nouns.

6th Reading: We will have a test over antonyms at the end of the week? What is an antonym? What does the word ancient mean? We will also be reviewing singular nouns.

January 21-25

7th/8th Reading: This is the beginning of the 2nd semester. We will be reviewing stressed syllables and prefixes. We will also prepare to write an expository paragraph by completing an informal outline.

6th Reading: This is the beginning of the 2nd semester, so start off on the right foot. We will be writing a summary pragraph on Tuesday and review how to diagram simple sentences.

January 14th-18th

This is the last week of the semester. Please get your work turned in.

7th/8th Reading: This week we will be reading the story "Way to Go." We learned the vocabulary words from this story last week. As we read try to see if you know what the vocabulary words mean. We will also be watching the movie "Finding Forrester" on Wednesday and Thursday. Make sure you get your permission slips turned in by January 16th.

6th Reading: This week we will be taking a spelling test and preparing to write a summary paragraph. We will also be watching a Wishbone Tom Sawyer movie.

January 7-11

7th/8th Reading: The students will be taking the OAKS Reading test this week during their English classes. This week we are going to be reviewing prefixes. We will also be focusing on transition words and practicing stressed syllables.

6th Reading: The students will be taking the OAKS Reading test this week during their English classes. This week This week we will be staring Lesson 7 in Unit 2. Students will review singular possessive nouns and continue identifying main ideas and supporting details and transition words.
